Zumper, a real estate rental platform, recently conducted a new study on the trending idea of FIRE (Financial Independence, Retire Early).
What Is Happening Now
While traditionally, everyone retires at 65; you will find many who want to and have retired in their early 40s. Some even retire as early as their 30s. For those who want a peaceful life after retirement, which place in the US would you want to go to?
They analyzed many cities by the needs and wants of a retiree and came up with the best ten places to retire in the USA.
Who Ranked First
Based on these metrics, Columbus is ranked the best city in the United States for retirees. The report explains,
“Housing affordability, healthcare availability, and outdoor recreation satisfaction are areas where this city excelled in our analysis. With a median 1-bedroom rent price of $935/month, retirees can downsize with flexibility in their fixed income for luxury accommodations and amenities.”
What More
The study also says, “While the weather in Ohio may not be as enjoyable as in most Southern or Coastal cities, our survey of renters ages 45 and above indicates that Columbus residents are delighted with their environment and access to outdoor recreation options. When asked to describe the best aspects of Columbus, survey respondents noted the plethora of cultural activities, including museums and art, the nightlife, and access to green spaces like parks and outdoor recreation.
Financial stability is also essential when retiring, and with no state social security tax and a state income tax rate of 3.99 percent, Columbus is a desirable location for early retirees with additional income from investments.”
