Boomers and Millennials vs. Gen Z: 13 Issues That Made Them Join Forces Against One

In a world where division and disagreement are the norms, it’s refreshing to find moments of unity and common ground. For a long time now, Baby Boomers and Millennials have been pitted against each other. Still, we came across a discussion on Reddit that united both.

A user asked, “What’s your most “I’m with the Boomers on this” opinion?” and the answers were quite interesting.

1. We Prefer Buttons Over Touchscreen

Touchscreens in cars are a fundamentally bad idea & physical buttons (or similar controls) need to be brought back.” said one.

Distracted driving is at an all-time high. Touchscreen controls require you to take your eyes off the road. They can create a longer time of inattention due to their complexity.” shared another.

I have an old car with physical controls. I can do dang near anything (radio, climate control, etc.) without taking my eyes off the road and in much less time.” shared a user.

2. Why Don’t Gen Zs Train Their Dogs

Most people don’t train their dogs well enough because they treat them like children, then they can’t handle them when they’re reactive and put people and other dogs in danger,” said one.

YES. I house-sat for a guy that does this, nice guy, but his Jack Russell terrier was 15 pounds of a nightmare,” said another.

 3. Why Is Everything A subscription?

Every damned thing is a subscription. Music? Subscription. Movies? Subscription. TV shows? Subscription. Heat your bum while you’re driving? Subscription. REALLY? Oh, sorry—I’m a boomer. I’ll leave now.” shared one.

No, you can stay with me on this one. Everything is either subscription, ad-ridden, or both. The worst ones are the ones that require a subscription and then still give you ads unless you pay for premium versions.” added another.

That and apps. I don’t want to have to download another goddamn app just to buy groceries,” shared a user.

4. Why Is Getting To A Real Customer Service Agent So Difficult?

I want a human customer service operator, not an automated operator or chatbot.” said one.

I’ve been scrolling to see this answer if it was there. It’s so frustrating because the prompt is ALWAYS “please listen closely as our menu options have changed,” and it’s like, have they really? Or is this just a way to not hire receptionists? It takes over two minutes sometimes just to get to the options menu. I called Best Buy to ask a question, and it routed me to a menu option, and there were 9 options; I couldn’t press 0 to skip or anything, and after I selected the most applicable one (which didn’t apply at all), I ended up having to go through several more options, and eventually, I just hung up. I only wanted to know if the store was open or/renovations were done. I went elsewhere entirely.” added another.

 5. Why Does Everything Ask For Email and Name

No, you don’t need my phone number or email. Just let me buy my shirt and get out of the store,” shared one.

You also don’t ever need my email or phone number for any in-person transaction.” clarified another.

6. Loud Music

Music in bars is too loud. (Edit to add that I’ve been a touring musician and live sound technician. I love music, but it actually sounds better at lower volumes, and I want to be able to hear it into my old age).” shared one.

I want to find just one bar where I can talk to my friends without screaming,” shared another.

7. What’s With Fast Fashion

Screw fast fashion; my clothes should be made to last,” said one.

I’m not rich, so it’s unavoidable, but I’m willing to spend extra on clothes that aren’t made of plastic, and I do my best to repair my damaged clothing instead of throwing it out.” added another.

There’s a documentary on the company Shein. I’m sorry, I can’t remember the name of it. Still, it’s about the working conditions of the people that make those clothes, and it’s horrific. Also, the environmental impact from fast fashion is so much higher than anyone would think.” explained one.

8. Why Is Everything Connected To The Internet?

Not everything needs to connect to the internet or have an app attached to it. I just want my fridge to keep stuff cold; I don’t understand why we have to bring WiFi into this situation.” said one

My freaking TOOTHBRUSH has an app. Why? WHY???” said a user, which led too many people to go bonkers.

“I literally just talked a friend out of getting a “smart” automatic litter box with an app. The price difference was $300 more than just a “regular” automatic scooping box, and you get .. what? Notifications that your cat just took a dump?” shared one.

9. Data Collection and Targeted Ads

Data collection. Targetted ads. I’d genuinely ask people to go offline as much as possible with devices. Not everything needs to be recorded, and you really don’t need an Alexa,” said one.

10. Scan The Bar Code For Menu

Also, QR menus are bad. I’ll go to your website and look at it, but I don’t want to download a PDF from your shady site.” said one.

QR menus are great until you dine in a place where you get no reception in the building.” added another.

Or you’re trying to save your battery life,” another said.

Or you are an international tourist with no access to wireless data,” said one more.

11. Planned Obsolescence

Things aren’t made like they used to be. Everything you buy now is so cheaply manufactured, and even high-end furniture uses cheap particle board and crappy joinery. We bought a pretty high-end couch a few years back, and it’s barely holding together.” said one.

A lot of products were made better in the past. Pyrex is a prime example, but there are thousands more. Planned obsolescence as a consequence of prioritizing quarterly profits over customer satisfaction is another nail in the coffin of this current version of the economy we live in.” said one more.

12. Living On Social Media

“As someone else posted, you don’t need to publicly post every second of your life. I’ve gotten to the point of mildly cringing on the occasions I pull out Snapchat and see someone posting 15-20 photos of a single night.” added another

My friend had a mental downward spiral. Deleted all social media and bought the first book that looked interesting on the shelf. She now has no social media, several hobbies, and feels GREAT!” shared one.

I don’t really know if this is a boomer opinion per se, but you don’t need to document everything you do and post it to your social media. Sometimes it’s better to just live in the moment and enjoy what’s happening around you,” said one.

 13. Playing Outside

Make your kids go outside and play. They need hours of play time in the fresh air and socializing. Stop keeping them cooped up on computer games.” said one.

I had to teach my 11 and 12-year-old nephews how to rude bikes last summer because they never learned how. They were never outside long enough, and their parents still don’t let them go outside.” said one.

DO NOT give electronics to kids, my sibling is becoming an annoying piece of s..t, and my parents don’t even try anymore; I can’t do anything either, or I will get in trouble,” added another.
