There is nothing new about gender wage gaps. Because of a bazillion reasons, women are paid lesser than men doing the same work.
What Does The New Report Say

According to the latest post by the US Department of Labour Laws, “On average, women working full time, year-round are paid 83.7% of what men are paid. This inequity is even greater for Black and Hispanic women”.
When we dug deeper, we found a report from the University of Houston’s Institute for Research on Women, Gender & Sexuality. According to the report, “the working women’s median wage is 81.1 cents on the dollar men make (although in most major cities, the gap is smaller)“.
However, the gap still exists despite how big the city is.
Which City Saw Widened Wage Gap

The report states Harris County has increased wage gaps in the last year.
The report also revealed that “the wage gap widened from 17% in 2017 (83 cents to the dollar) to 20% in 2019 (80 cents to the dollar) in Harris County. The 20% gap is notably greater than in comparable urban US counties—12% in Cook County (Chicago) and LA, and 8% in New York City.”
It is also interesting to note the difference between women depending on race and ethnicity and the further discrimination women of color face. According to her research, “White women make 70 cents to every white man’s dollar, while black women make 45 cents and Hispanic women about 38 cents.”
Women Are More Educated

What is surprising is on average, according to DOL, “women have more years of education and are more likely than men to have completed Associate’s, Bachelor’s or Master’s degrees.”
