15 Things Couples Regretted The Most After Their Big Day (You Don’t Have To!)

Planning a wedding can be chaotic with details easily overlooked. Some regrets can last long after the event. What's your biggest wedding regret? Here are common ones.

REGISTERING FOR CHINA

“Registering for gd China. I didn’t want it. Knew we would never use it. Received everything. Never have used it in 25 years.”

TELLING PEOPLE NOT TO TAKE PHOTOS

Regret telling guests not to take photos at our wedding due to the photographer's request. She ghosted us afterwards, leaving us with only 10-20 photos some guests took. Ignore the advice and you risk losing all your memories.

LETTING THEIR MOTHER-IN-LAW SPEAK

“Letting my mother-in-law have any say in anything. She ruined the food.”

NOT HAVING GRANDMA AS A FLOWER GIRL

“Not having our grandmas as flower girls. We didn’t have anyone to be flower girls, and I didn’t think of asking grandmas until way after the wedding.”

HAVING OUTDOOR WEDDING

“Having an outdoor wedding in August in South Carolina. Timing necessitated it. Otherwise, I loved my wedding and loved my wife.”

NEGLECTING THE BREAKFAST

"Married early on a beach, all I craved was a breakfast sandwich - eggs, cheese, bacon on a toasted English muffin with hot sauce!"

WEARING THE WRONG SOCKS

“I (the groom) accidentally wore Christmas socks with a clearly visible Santa face peeking out as I moved.”

PAPER INVITATIONS

"Wedding RSVPs caused unnecessary stress; no one uses mail anymore. Set up a wedding site instead. Saving time, money, and avoiding my biggest regret."

NOT TAKING PICTURES

Had a quick, legal wedding, presided by a friend with my aunt & uncle as witnesses. Only realized a week later, we forgot to take pictures. Whoops.

MAKING CUPCAKES; IS A LOT OF WORK

"Made cupcakes, beer, and mead. Assembled flowers and centerpieces for cost-efficiency and love of DIY. But cupcakes were time-consuming and not impressive."

REGRET HIRING THE COORDINATOR

"Dissatisfied with the coordinator provided for the wedding. He became flustered and forgot key details moments before the ceremony began. Rather than relaxing, I had to step in and fix it."

NOT PREPARING A SPEECH

"No speech prepared. I’d just go up, thank all, sit down. Short, sweet, over quickly. Did it without mentioning parents or wife."

INVITING WRONG PEOPLE

"Invited people I didn't want to. They're costly, there's no interaction, and they don't bring nice gifts. But, allowing divorced relatives to bring +1s stoked entertaining rivalry."

ENDING HEARTFELT SPEECH WITH A JOKE

“Gave a heartfelt speech that ended with a joke. The punchline being “…and your presence here means almost as much as the envelopes you brought with you.” Crickets. I still cringe.”

INVITING PEOPLE WE DON’T LIKE

We downsized our guest list due to hall size and unintentionally hurt some people. Regrettably, we let my wife's unpleasant uncle bring uninvited guests, making it quite awkward.

NOT HIRING A PHOTOGRAPHERS

"Not hiring a photographer was a mistake. We relied on friends for pictures, but ended up with few good ones. No pics of cake or settings. The only decent photo with my husband features our flower girl. People think she’s our kid. Hire a photographer!"
