“Never argue with your parents. I wasn’t raised in a strict house, but nobody argued with my dad, and there were no raised voices. I got spanked maybe 4 or 5 times total, and after that, all my dad or brother (he was 15 years older) had to do was change their tone of voice, and it stopped.

I’m 42, almost 43 now. If my father was still alive at 98 and I said, ‘Dad, I’m gonna go to the store quick.’ he would have said, ‘It looks like it’s going to storm. Wait until tomorrow.’ I would listen to him. I might look at myself and say I can make it, but if he insisted, that would be that.”
